NVCF bring and buy stall?
Does anyone know whether there is going to be a bring and buy stall at this year's NVCF?
If it helps, I would be willing to spend some of the day looking after it - if there is one.

I would also be willing to help though as I'm also a steward I don't know how much time I'll have free. I'd like to get a good look round the show too!

Re: NVCF bring and buy stall?
Hello Everyone,
There WILL be a Bring and Buy Stall at the NVCF. It will be located directly next to the BVWS stall just to the right of the entrance into the main hall. Volunteers to man it throughout the day will be very welcome. It will open at 10:30am and close at 3PM Tannoy announcements on the day will make this clear. Mike...

Re: NVCF bring and buy stall?
As I said, I will give what assistance I can.
I shall also bring some small items to sell.

Re: NVCF bring and buy stall?
Is anyone brining labels, record sheets etc to run the B&B? ISTR Julian (Lowemission) doing this at Harpenden except when I had to improvise at the last minute because Julian couldn't make it.

Re: NVCF bring and buy stall?
I have a pdf or word doc of the labels and sheets that I sent last time should anyone want them. I'd print 'em and bring 'em myself only I may be slightly late getting there.

Re: NVCF bring and buy stall?
Please bring them along anyway. I'm sure you won't be that late. Email me the files and I'll print some sheets. Labels are trickier since I don't think I've got anything the right size. Nothing that a marker pen and some masking tape won't solve until you arrive with the right stuff.

Re: NVCF bring and buy stall?
Hi! I know this is probably a silly question, but is the Bring 'n' Buy open to all, or just BVWS members? I have a rather smart Ferranti radio I might bring along! How exactly does it (the B&B not the Ferranti radio!) work, with regard to receiving payment etc?

Re: NVCF bring and buy stall?
I guess it will be open to all, as is the case with the whole event. Normally it is 10% to the BVWS, though I don't know if the commission will be higher for non-members (as it is for BVWS auctions).
You set your price (write it on the label when you hand over the item), and if it sells you get the cash less the commission at the end of the day. If it doesn't sell you owe nothing, and just take your item away again. They can't really handle offers though, so it needs to be priced sensibly. |

Re: NVCF bring and buy stall?
At the Harpenden B&B we've usually noted the asking price and also a "lowest offer" price. The latter can only be seen by those running the stall. This allows for offers.

Re: NVCF bring and buy stall?
I missed the last Harpenden, but we didn't have any notion of lowest offer, the price was what it said on the label.
However the seller can always come back later and ask to have a lower price put on the item should they choose - a number of helpers (me included) don't want to get involved with haggling. TTFN, Jon |

Re: NVCF bring and buy stall?
I would concur with that. I would much prefer to have fixed prices.
If, however, I am reliably informed that I have overpriced an item I have placed, I would be happy to revise it.

Re: NVCF bring and buy stall?
Excellent! Thanks for the replies. This should suit me fine - I only have one (or maybe two) items to sell, so couldn't justify a stall this year. Fixed prices seem the fairest solution really. Now, I must remember not to buy anything larger than that I am selling and everything will be alright!

Re: NVCF bring and buy stall?
I'm happy to work with fixed prices. If sellers keep an occasional eye on what's happening they can reduce prices as time goes on. Please remember the golden rule:
If it doesn't sell, you must take it home with you. We don't provide a skip! |

Re: NVCF bring and buy stall?
It seemed to work very well on the day. Thanks to all the volunteers who manned the stall - very hectic at times too. All the equipment I brought with me sold quickly. I hope the proceeds for the Society were worth the extra effort. Well worth the 10% BVWS commission, so I bunged in a couple of extra quid.
Perhaps the Bring 'n' Buy could be given a slightly larger stall next year? Thanks again chaps and well done Phil

Re: NVCF bring and buy stall?
Astonishingly, I managed to reconcile the B&B accounts to within a few pence! It was slightly chaotic and there were a couple of suspected errors in our records so heaven knows how I got that close.
I would have loved a bigger stall but the BVWS sold all the available space and could have sold more. The B&B stall is offered as a service and doesn't make a huge profit for the BVWS so any extra space would be difficult to justify. |
