Megger Model SL series1,2.5KV/5KV
Hello Folks, There is a post in "Information & Service Data Wanted" concerning these huge big Meggers, which I've replied to.
Does anyone know anything about them & possibly hold some spares ? I only aquired mine yesterday, but definetely need some help & advice. Mine is possibly a later hybrid model, as its plated "THORN EMI" & not "Evershed & Vignoles". Unfortunately the handle shaft connection to the big 3"dia paxolin cogwheel is missing. The beautiful m/c meter has a wee circular spirit level inserted in the middle. Regards, David |

Re: Megger Model SL series1,2.5KV/5KV
Belay that last pipe - as they would say in the Navy. Winding shaft connection - found. Jammed underneath the motor mechanism, looks like the two wee grubscrews had come loose. However, the internal 115V motor's spring loaded start/run switch is missing. Will definitely need one of those.
Have been trawling through the internet sites, but havent found a manual yet. This thing is magnificently well built electronically, and the joinery work in the casing is lovely. Regards, David |

David,
You're a braver man than I am Gunga Din! I've been bitten by my 500v ones and it's not pleasant. Good luck and be careful. Alan |

Re: Megger Model SL series1,2.5KV/5KV
Peter, Great photo of your manual model1 2.5KV. However, its totally different than this manual/motorised version I have.
Alan, have carefully AVO'd this beast on it's ranges from 500 to 2500V. All is fine, including my fingers. Regards, David ps Have tried to attach a jpeg image, but its too big(2.7M) |

Re: Megger Model SL series1,2.5KV/5KV
Have delved further. It would seem that the Evershed & Vignoles Series1 Megger Insulation Tester is the item shown in Peter's picture. ie - of 1950's vintage, hand wound.
Mine - the SL Model Series1 Megger Insulation Tester is a much later production from THORN EMI, incorporating 1980's circuitry, hand wound or motorised. Have looked through Mauritron & BAMA, but nothing on a manual. The 115V motor has a part no = 6230-444 and it's start/run switch is what I must aquire somehow. Meantime, shall rub down & re-varnish the lovely wooden case. It works perfectly in its hand-wound mode, so can still take pride of place on my shelf. Regards, David |
