Problem is at 16 for most of us Quad etc were just a dream so we had to enjoy “ much less fi” but enjoy it we did.

Me neither, even though I had the opportunity to buy things at cost price. So my parents got a Sony Trinitron for half price, and me a Thorens TD150/SME/V15 and lots of records. I could not stretch to a Quad rig though.

But oddly they are now affordable. The system in the kitchen is an FM4/33/303, and it gives me great joy. Looks brand new. The TV goes via fibre to a cheapo DAC and then into the 33. New and old in perfect harmony.
