DIY replacement power cable colour coding help
Hello all. A friend gave me a Raynox DU 707 A projector with no power cable. My plan is just to solder on a new power cable internally but I’m a bit stuck. I have soldered on the earth, I know on my new cable blue is neutral and brown is live but I don't know the corresponding colours if the brown is live or the yellow/red combination is neutral. I will include a picture as I don't think I’m explaining correctly. Hope someone can help me.

Re: DIY replacement power cable colour coding help
Can't help you with where to connect the wires but I do hope your plan includes the removal or disconnection of the old mains socket

Re: DIY replacement power cable colour coding help
It looks like in some markets the cable comes in through a grommet with no connector
https://www.van-eck.net/img/itable/i...2503253733.jpg click to magnify Live (brown) to the fuse and blue (neutral) to the transformer. It's clear that the red wire going to neutral is one end of the RF suppressor cap. As David said, do not leave the connector wired in.

Re: DIY replacement power cable colour coding help
I would look into filing it to fit a C14 input connector they you can use a common C13 to mate with it.

Re: DIY replacement power cable colour coding help
Honestly if you've not done this often and you're not entirely confident about it then it would be worth getting a second opinion before you plug into the wall. The mains is very unforgiving.
Where are you in Oxfordshire ? If you can get over to Didcot I'll happily have a look. Two heads are better than one, even if one of them is mine (just to be clear, this wouldn't be commercial work and I'd not be charging at all for it). Cheers, GJ

Take care, and put a 3 or 5 amp fuse in the plug. When vintage equipment is plugged in for the first time in decades, things can sometimes to go bang simply by degrading with age.

Re: DIY replacement power cable colour coding help
There is a better photo of the correct model on the van-eck website, might help a bit:
https://www.van-eck.net/img/itable/i...2336118481.jpg May be worth asking them re. a power cable / connector - the separate power lead is shown as unavailable, but it costs nothing to ask... (all Dutch speak English). |

Re: DIY replacement power cable colour coding help
That looks an awful lot safer that your proposal at the start of this thread.
As a tip for the future those C14 connectors are often mounted behind the panel enabling them to be wired on the bench as part of the internal wiring harness. This also means that the cut in the panel is a rectangle making it easier to cut out. |
