When Quad launched the 405, Ross Walker explained that their policy of launching a new product every few years gave them the opportunity to design bugs out during development rather than patch them over with additional components. Sound idea - except it was followed by six editions of the board...

Nevertheless, I use and like both a 405 and the professional 520 variant.

I am going to have to give in to my inner voice and move that chassis connection to 0V. It is wrong - wrong - wrong and if not the initial cause, the instability could have been tamed if the CR network on the outputs went directly to 0V. At a guess, this is the consequence of some country variants using an earth.
