Default Dansette turntable fault query

Hello. I'm a newbie here.
I have a Dansette Bermuda Mk1. When I put a record on to play, the mechanism takes an eternity to get the record on to the turntable - the turntable barely moves. Once the record drops on to the playing surface, the speed seems to pick up, and the record plays (reasonably) well.
Any tricks / tips / advice how to fix this fault would be appreciated. Details of a suitable repairer (Swansea / South Wales area) would also be greatly appreciated, as I'm keen to play my vinyl.
Cheers

Id say it needs a good ole clean up on the moving parts as the grease hardens with age another thing could be the inner rim on the platter/turntable needs a clean where the rubber idler wheel touches it, i tend to use Isopropyl Alcohol and clean the inner rim edge

Read the sticky thread on restoring autochangers. I would first give the edge of the rubber idler wheel a going-over with an emery board to expose new rubber.

What Ben said - my own abilities, skills and knowledge have been considerably enhanced by working methodically through this sticky thread:-

If you intend to play modern stereo records then come back to the Forum for advice when you reach the stage of restoring/replacing the cartridge!
