Default BSR UA25 screw

I'm having trouble trying to remove the single countersunk Phillips screw in the headshell of a BSR UA25 deck. The screw head appears to be a bit mashed so I cannot get any purchase to undo it.
What type of thread is it or where can I get a replacement?

Thanks in advance
Dave

Why do you need to remove this, are you trying to remove the tone arm? Try a small flat head. I can't remember from scratch if this is the PU height adjusting screw and normally there is no need to remove this.

I think you should read the first post again carefully Edward.

The OP is obviously referring to the screw which holds the cartridge or cartridge mounting bracket into the arm.

Try using a small sharp pair of side cutters on the edge of the screw head.

Thanks Graham

That is the screw, I'll try the side cutters trick.

It's a Pozi 0 point head, and a couple I've just checked aren't perfectly formed. If yours isn't re-unusable, PM your address & I'll send you one.

Now I've re-read the Post correctly! (thanks, Graham) if all else fails, you could carefully drill off the screw head with an electric drill using a very light pressure. Don't overdrill it in case it enlarges the mounting hole in the head. Your cartridge has a metal mount and if you intend re-using it, you could then remove the screw stub once it's clear with tweezers.

I sometimes find if you warm the screw head carefully with an old soldering iron it will usually loosen.
This also works with stuck Bush TR82 tuning knobs, remove the centre cap and warm the spindle until the knob pulls off. ( being careful not to go too far and melt the plastic) I keep a tin of freezer to hand to cool the plastic quickly once released.
regards,
Rich.
