One of those was my first scope - aged 14, ex services. The were advertised in Practical Wireless, and it arrived with the front cover and all the accessories - including the cathode follower probe.

Had hours of fun with that, and learned a lot too.

I bought one of these when I was still a child. Worked all summer to pay for that!

You will have to change all the capacitors because the waxy's went bad on mine about 30 years ago!

They smell great too... Not sure what it is... Probably something dangerous...

If anyone has one , Brett has disappeared...

Hartley 13A.
I have one, complete, working, with manuals, front cover and probe, leads etc, if you are still looking.
It is the later version, with the improved cathode ray tube 89D -CV2193, instead of the original O9D-CV1596.
Problem is delivery, as it is far too heavy really for courier, at 32kg, 70lb.
Send me a private message if still interested.

I have just found mine in the loft. I was looking to sell it complete with probes etc. Last time I checked it still worked but that was a while back. I am about an hour from Brighton if you wanted to buy & collect it but I will need to get it down from the loft! Please let me know if your are still interested (I would much prefer it to go to an enthusiast).

Mike.

Be careful if you are using a 13A on transistor circuits - we dumped them all at the firm I was working at in 1969 because under certain conditions of switching the trigger circuits they will output a low impedance 50 volt spike which was quite detrimental to uA 716 chips.

Indeed. My 13A (above, aged 14) blew up a signal generator I had just built. Blew the germanium transistors (NKT something or other). As I said above, I learned a lot with the 13A

It seems they make a good garden ornament

I used to have a 13A years ago, but left it behind when I moved house in the late 90s.

They're built like tanks, but virtually useless as a serious scope. I sort of regret leaving mine behind, as they're quite a nice vintage item and have some potentially useful parts inside, although they are very heavy and they do take up valuable space.

A friend of mine in this particular village where I used to live also had one, but his now resides out in the garden. I took the snaps below while I was visiting him yesterday. It's the special double beam model - shame it's been out in the garden for the last few years
