BSR deck running too fast.
Hello
I have this Fidelity. It runs slightly fast and I have no idea how to adjust this. Hope someone can help. Thank you. |

Re: BSR deck running too fast.
The speeds on these can't be adjusted, but a fault on the drive to the turntable can. Does it run fast on all speeds? It is "fast" as such, or is it a "varying speed" with changes in pitch?

Re: BSR deck running too fast.
Check for build up of dirt on the stepped pulley. The build up increase the diameter of the pulley and increases the speed slightly.

Re: BSR deck running too fast.
Thank you both.
It is more noticeable at 45. It is not varying, just slightly fast. There shouldn't really be dirt as it had a service (clean up, lubrication etc before I got it) . Dave |

Re: BSR deck running too fast.
The rubber from the idler wheel can build up on tbe stepped pulley, easy to check if it is that.

Re: BSR deck running too fast.
Have a look where the idler sits on the stepped pulley, it should be sitting cleanly on each step. I think there is a means of adjusting this up and down.
I seem to remember having a player with this deck that did seem slightly faster than an older BSR deck I had, but in my case I thought the older deck was slightly slow. These aren't precision instruments and there may be variations, but it shouldn't be noticeably too fast. The speeds are fixed, so if the idler is sat on the pulley correctly, and there is no foreign matter on the pulley then it has always been the way it is and there is no way of changing that, short of changing the pulley itself (I don't think you can get the pulley off so it would mean the rotor would need replacing) |

Re: BSR deck running too fast.
In my opinion this is not uncommon on BSR decks I have rarely had one that was spot on, unless you want to turn down the motor pulley that's about it.

Re: BSR deck running too fast.
Beware of dubious "servicing" and claims of "fully restored" on newly purchased vintage record players. Only relatively few can do this properly and mostly are old enough to have had historical experience of these. Edward

Re: BSR deck running too fast.
How do you know its running fast? Are you judging it by ear or have you used a strobe disc to check the speed?

Re: BSR deck running too fast.
I think many autochangers ran fast so as to compensate when you had a load of 78's playing and the turntable slowed down. Seem to remember many ran fast. Probably just manufacturing tolerance of a low cost product.
