Default Philips 242 Turntable.

Dear Members,

I do have a Philips India 242 turntable.

It is working well but now a days a problem I am facing that while its playing LPs the speed goes down suddenly. I stop the motor then restart it and the speed becomes correct. After some time again speed drops.

From where the problem arises?

Waiting for your suggestions.

It could be a slipping drive belt which has become stretched over time - or the electronic speed control circuitry. Have you looked at the belt - they are still obtainable? These are nice turntables.

From where I can get the belt. Can you help me out. I will search here obviously but I don't want to put used or duplicate belt. Actually I have put Rega Carbon Cartridge on it. Its plays really good.

There are many Websites. For example look at - www.lpgear.com
They have a whole section on Philips belts.
If yours is not available, see their notes on how to measure the old belt, send them you measurements and they will match one for you and send to you.

It seems more likely that the fault is within the electronic speed control.

If the belt had stretched to that extent, the turntable would be slow the whole time, not just stop.
