Default Sanyo G3001 turntable removal

Hi all
I've just inherited a Sanyo G3001 radio/cassete/record player unit. This was originally bought for my brother in law in around 1974 (we think). Its been in my 'in-laws' loft for 20 years at least. Generally its really nice, with its original Sanyo speakers.

It needs a little renovation...
First up I can see that the drive belt for the turntable has completely broken down to a soft mush. I've ordered a belt, but I can't figure out how to remove the turntable in order to change the belt. Its not a simple drop-on type, and there is no visible clip that can be removed. With care, I have pulled whilst bracing the spindle, but I don't want to damage it, its seems there may be an invisible means of attachment.

Would anyone be able to offer any advice?

Thanks in advance, Richard.

If you remove the platter mat there may be holes in the aluminium platter that will help you to "lever" it out with a gentle, but firm, side-to-side lateral movement. Let us know how you get on. The belts on the cassette mechanism may have suffered also.

Richard,
Did you manage to work out how to remove the turntable?
I've just bought the same model and have the same problem. I've looked at the suggestions on other threads but no luck.
I'm pretty much stumped!
Ian

Thanks Bill,
The wedge and sharp tap worked a treat for me.
