Default Denco Cans

Does anyone know a source of the sort of aluminium cans that Denco coils used to come in?

They were of similar design, but rather larger I think than 35mm film cans, although films came in plastic pots rather than metal cans by the time I took up 35mm photography!

If you only need one or two genuine Denco cans I may have a couple spare.

PM received and replied to, Jim. Three cans will be on their way to you tomorrow.

I've reviewed my little collection of Denco coils, in cans, and it transpires that two different sizes of can were used, a larger one for the earlier Octal-based coils and a smaller can (very similar to a 35mm film can) for the later DP (dual purpose, valve/transistor) coils with B9A bases.

I gather that Denco coils have become rather collectable these days! I'm hanging on to my four Green DP coils for when I get round to rebuilding the 2-valve receiver that started me off in this great hobby in my schoolboy days.

Yes Phil, hang on to your green coils. I bid for three of these on eBay earlier this year and they sold finally for ninety odd quid! (Not to me I might add!).

£90! I think I have quite a few of these coils up in the loft somewhere. I think I bought all the ones used in the RA Penfold book about SW receivers for beginners about 35 yrs ago. eg all the green ones plus a few yellow and red flavours. They weren't easy to find even in those days so maybe that's why they fetch big money today.

I'll look upon them as an investment from now on...

I think the reason they are so popular is because they are so "Visual"

Also they are part of most of us who built Radios from the books and Magazines of the 60's and 70's

I have collected quite a number and some have been with me since my teens.

The last ones I bought new were from Maplin a yellow 3T and Blue 3T in the late 1980's for a project in the Maplin magazine (Electronics)

Cheers

It's a very long time since I last saw a Denco coil - of any colour. So, Litz be seeing 'em, please!

Most of my coils are in Poole, however there is this picture showing 3 of my coils in the Gibson Superhet.
