Default Kenwood/Trio TR-9000

Hello, I have a TR-9000 which works well on Tx and Rx. I can not get the memories to function after the set is switched off. They work so long as the set is switched on. I have constructed the battery backup circuit, but with no success. Can anyone help, Please?

Trying to remember...

I think these sets were designed with only in-car operation in mind. They pre-dated any useful non-volatile memory. I wonder if they relied on a scond power input to be not fed from ignition/accessory switched supplies? - Relying on the car battery rather than anything internal.

The only sections of those sets I've had to go into over the years have been the RF power modules of the transmitters.

Here is a link to the user manual. Scroll to page 12 'memory' it states that to retain memory a backup supply must be used.

In times past the backup battery approach would no doubt have been a couple of diodes and a leak prone subminiature NiCd battery.

The modern equivalent being a Supercapacitor. Tens/hundreds of Farads in something about the same size as a 10uF 15V electrolytic cap from the days of old.

Thank you all. Malcolm, I did say that I had tried the backup circuit as recommended on p.12 of the manual.
