Default HMV 2042 issues

Hi, I'm looking for help with this player. I have two issues. Firstly, when i received the player, a couple of wires were adrift from the cartridge, a BSR SC5M. The manual states that the left side of the cart is wired for stereo through a separate amp, though i can't seem to make this happen succesfully. I have attached a wander plug to the radio socket and the tape socket with success, but don't seem to get anything much from the stereo socket. The arm has 4 wires, red green white and black. at present, I have connected white to r+, black to r-, red to L+ and green to L-. Anyone know if this is correct? The service manual doesn't give this info!
The second issue is that when the volume is really pushed up, the cabinet seems to vibrate, causing a hum over the music. Is there a specific area I should be looking at to cure this?
All help gratefully received.

Is the stereo output a phono socket?
If so, it might well need an 'old style' plug with a long centre pin.

doesnt look like it has an outer ring but the old long phono does indeed fit and makes contact on the other two sockets.

Possibly feedback when the volume is up high? are the transit screws on the deck screwed right down so it is floating on its springs?
Steve.

As far as I can see by googling this model, the plugs for connecting radio, tape recorder and stereo output are 3.5mm jack plugs, not phono or wander plugs. What are you using as the extra amplifier for stereo?

I never thought of a 3.5mm jack, given the age of the player. I'll try it later. I was feeding it through an amplified speaker.
