Default Vintage Radio & TV Display in Midlands. 21st August 2011.

Hello,

Members may like to know that there is to be a radio & television display as part of an vintage vehicle show in the Midlands, this coming Sunday, 21st August.

The show is held at Lupin Farm, Orgreave, Staffordshire on the A513, midway between Alrewas & Kings Bromley. Note that giving the post code will only confuse you & your sat nav, leading to you ending up down a dead end! Your 1972 AA "Book Of The Road" will work just fine!
It is easy to find on show day - just look for the pink farmhouse and all the activity!

Things get going from around 10:30 and draw to a close at around 16:30.

There is no entrance fee as such - just put a donation in the bucket for the two charities as you drive in, the minimum suggested donation is £3, please have your donation ready to avoid queues at the entrance. The charities are St Giles Hospice, Whittington and the Staffordshire Air Ambulance.

There is on-site catering, a selection of stalls, sideshows etc. and a huge variety of vintage & classic cars, lorries, motor-cycles, stationary engines etc.

Andy (AF024) is helping once again and bringing along some of his sets to display, too.

I hope that we might see some of you there, and if you do come along, please come & say 'Hello'.

Phil.

Hi Phil,All,

I will be going to this, and am looking forward to it.

We will be taking along a 1936/37 Chrysler Plymouth Car ( last seen at Wootton Bassett ) and also a couple of period pieces to show. I will also be spining the 78's on am HMV portable.
I will also be taking along a mystery radio (not to me) that I have had for many many years, and no it's not a Murphy, to add to the radio display.

It sounds like a really great day out and Sunday cannot come soon enough.

Do try to make it if you can, it will be a lot of fun.

Mike...

This is an event well worth supporting. Phil and Andy always put on an excellent display of working televisions, record players and radios and then spend the entire day patiently answering questions from interested members of the public (usually along the lines of 'how do you get pictures on them now it's all gone digital?')

There are lots of 'bread and butter' classic cars to enjoy plus a few craft and cake stalls, so it really does make for a thoroughly enjoyable day out.

Where else can you go from inspecting a Ford Corsair or Austin 1100 to admiring a working vintage telly at the same venue?

Here are some pictures of the display from today's event. Phil and Andy put on a good show with sets ranging from a Bush TV24 to an early 80s Ferguson TX. We get so used to dealing with vintage sets it's easy to forget that Joe Public possibly hasn't seen a test card in years, so it's always interesting to hear the reaction from people.

I also managed to thrash an 8 year old at 'tennis' on a Binatone games console!

There were loads of wonderful classic cars on display too including a solid looking primrose yellow Triumph Herald coupe which also happened to be for sale.....

Altogether a grand day out with fab weather too

Steve J

And more...

Incidentally, the 'Rex's Rentals' Ford 100E van was used in the 1997 Xmas special edition of ITV's 'Heartbeat' entitled 'The Queen's Message'. The episode included some televisions supplied by myself and my late friend Pat Hildred.

That looked like a fantastic day. Well done Phil and Andy for putting on what looked like an excellent display. Alas I spent the day with my head inside a Bush CTV that wasn't being very nice to me.

Great pictures from both you and the tellies

One of my plans for the future is to get a Marina van and deck it out as a 1970s radio and TV engineer's van

As one who would have gone if he lived nearer and wasn't otherwise committed, well done. And thanks for the photos!

Hi.
That looked like a brilliant day, well done to the organisers.
It's such a pity nothing like that is done up here, we do have the weather to contend with though!
