Default ITT KA 2010 Upgrade

I have always liked ITT and a few other manufactures who made record players and systems in the early 1970s.
The ITT KA 2010 is a fine sounding system in its standard form, I have always wondered if it could sound better by the fitting of a magnetic cartridge with a pre-amp.
I have always liked the active EQ circuit used for ceramic cartridges in these player plus a few others as they do help get the best out of ceramic cartridges.

Anyway I used a BSR MP-60 turntable with a suitable magnetic cartridge, I have a choice so will make final decision when it is all done.

Now I want to say a MASSIVE THANKS to MIKE the ITT GOD for letting me have a copy of the servicer manual for this system, without it it would have been a lot harder to achieve.

The two here pictures show the underneath of the unit with boards and wires everywhere.
Even though it has some plug in connectors there are still wires left attached, I suppose one thing is they are long enough to let you get in there without having to unsolder everything

Once I had undone a load of nuts and screws I was left with the three main boards layed out infront of me.
Because I needed to by-pass the input stage for the turntable I used the schemetic diagram to identify which components to remove to achieve this.
In the pictures you can see before as standard and after where I have moved the input leads into the correct connection points

once I had altered the input I then took a LM7812v regulator and bodged this on so I could test magnetic pre-amp with it, quick voltage check and some made up leads showed me that my wet finger did a fine job of producing a very healthy hum when touching the live in
This pre-amp came courtesy of an Aiwa px860 turntable effect turntable)
The next job was to connect up a turntable with a load of adaptors etc

Hi Gary
Glad it all worked out for you, a modified circuit drawing of the schematic to show what you did would maybe help others if they wanted to try this.

Hello Mike
Thanks for the prod
Basically I removed CC18 and CC7 these are the coupling caps from the eq stage I also took out the transistors, I then put the input wires into one of the coupling caps holes going to the circuit
Simples (even for me)
