Default Control Signal Data Comparator - what's this?

Does anybody recognise this control box or know what aircraft or installation it comes from please? I've had it (and another 4 like it) for around 45 years so it's not anything recent.

Most have them have become donor cases for things I've built but before the last one goes the same way I thought I'd try and find out what they were used for!
