Default Tektronix TSG-271 PAL video generator

Morning,

I spent a jolly evening yesterday de-Rifa'ing/de-Schaffner'ing a Tek TSG271 PAL video generator (Craig Sawyers, take a bow ):

https://drive.google.com/folderview?...wEndM44psyrsmG

Although it appeared to work when powered up on Craig's kitchen table - fan operated, front panel membrane buttons/LEDs cycled through - I did *not* do so as soon as I got it home, just in case. As you'll see from the condition of the six Rifa caps, my caution was entirely justified

Yesterday evening's work was successful (fan works, buttons/LEDs do their stuff) so I'll be checking the overall functionality later today.

I also have a TSG-300; the power board is u/s so I've bought some inexpensive SMPS 'bricks' (2 each of 12V, 5V to create the +/- rails) to try and breathe life into that one. These are too big to fit into the space previously occupied by the original Tek SMPS board so I'll have to 'busk it' by making up an extender cable.

More anon -

Guy

An update:

Initial functional checks done today; all outputs appear to be present and the front panel dome buttons do what they're supposed to. Seeing a 2T/10T pulse & bar signal again was like seeing an old friend! All that's needed now is a Teletext generator, a Nicam 728kbps audio coder, Mikey405's test card DVD, a modulator, a spare slot somewhere in UHF ... and I can pretend Freeview never happened

I've noted some noise/ripple on the test signal output, however this may be due to the presence of incoming noise on the workshop mains (my security light is LED and runs off a dimmer switch fed from a dawn-to-dusk light sensor). I've seen this effect before, so I've ordered a replacement line filter socket (equivalent to the Schaffner one I'd taken out & replaced with a 'plain' IEC inlet). Hopefully this will resolve the issue.

Here are the pictures of the Rifa capacitors/line filter after removal (just in case anyone's having a problem with 'browser vs. Google Drive' compatibility).
