Marconi oscillator
Ive been offered a Marconi oscillator, having never used such a thing, I was wondering would this be of any use in restoring valve radios ?? Advice glady taken....

Re: Marconi oscillator
Might be, do you have a model number? If an RF generator, with modulation, then yes!

Re: Marconi oscillator
Marconi TF1247 is the VHF oscillator, covering 20 to 300Mhz. It operates at quite high power, and at very low impedance. You would have to make up a simple transformer (1 turn to 20 say on a ferrite ring or core) to step the output up to about 50ohms. And then the output can be varied up to about 4v. Not calibrated attenuation, no modulation.
Great fun to get useable, but if you are feeling your way, there are much better options of service signal generators available - Taylor 68, Avo HF135, Leader, Heathkit, and always the Volkswagen of the trade, the Advance E2. The complete TF1245/TF1246 Qmeter unit is most versatile, but in a different field from servicing radios. wme_bill |

Re: Marconi oscillator
They are very valuable instruments in terms of what they can do for you if you are designing radios or winding your own VHF inductors. This doesn't mean prices are high, just the value of what they can do.
The TF1245 is a dual frequency range instrument and can be used with a different model oscillator to cover the LF-HF bands. (One oscillator bolts on each side of the 'circuit magnification meter') Look up Q meter to see what this thing is. By the way, the bit of coax linking the two is rather special stuff. David
