Multicore 60/40 solder question
I have an old Multicore 60/40 reel which is badged "Ersin 309 5 core", and it's about to run out. I've noticed that it has superior whetting characterisics when compared to any other of my various solders, hence would like to replace with something pretty much identical.
Looking on the CPC site, they now offer an X39 Multicore solder, and a (more expensive) Locktite 309 (both Henkel products). 1. are these pretty much the same? 2. does anyone have direct experience of the X39 and it's properties? Many thanks John |

No, it's not that. The 309 is available as 60/40, e.g CPC item SD00958 309 60EN 5C 0.5MM R 250G

Re: Multicore 60/40 solder question
I think X39 has a low flux (no clean) content designed for reflow work and the like. 309 is much more like multicore of old with a rosin flux content of around 3%.

Re: Multicore 60/40 solder question
Yes, thanks, I'd suspected this might be the difference. I've ordered the 309, as it seems to be a reasoanble deal from CPC at present.
