Default Echoes of Round Ekcos

Does anyone perchance own either a round Sparton mirror radio, or a Detrola 'Bluebird'? Would be very interested to hear about these echoes of round Ekcos.
Regards,
Richard

Must say I've never seen the wooden one! I have seen one of the mirrored glass ones, cost more than I had at the time. I do have 4 and a half round Ekco's in varying states of disrepair.

Lloyd

I have handled both sets but have never actually owned them. I know that the styling of the Sparton was reproduced under the Crosley brand some years ago. Supposedly, the original came with a circular mirror on which it could sit. I have had one of these in the past but there are so few Sparton radios in Britain that I wound up selling it. The last time I saw the wooden one it was on a stall at the old NVCF I think when it was held at Wembley back in the 1990s.

I've seen the Crosley repros of the Sparton. It seems that even these are difficult to come by in the UK. If there are any of our American cousins reading, it would be interesting to hear as to their availability that side of the pond.

Richard

Hi Richard,

In addition to the two models you have given, are you aware of the Radialva Super Boum from France - circa 1949?

They were manufactured in a number of colour combinations - maroon bakelite with red plastic trim is the most sought after, but I particularly like the brown bakelite and cream trim version shown in the images.

They turn up quite infrequently on eBay.fr and always at a prohibitively high price. Been looking to obtain one for a number of years - unfortunately still looking.

Regards,

Surprised no one has mentioned the Ever-ready 'saucepan' radio. Does anyone have a picture to shown what I'm on about?

The Radialva reminds me of a fan heater!
