Default Another set to identify

I'm waiting for some wood stain to dry, so have time to dig out this holiday snap to see if anyone could ID this set. I don't own it, so not desperate to find an answer. I just saw it in an antiques shop in Suffolk last year and I wondered if anyone here would recognise it.

The back is missing, so there's no model number and I'm afraid I didn't have time to get a valve line-up. There are 9 valves including the Magic eye, I'm presuming the tubular item behind the smoothing cap is a metal-cased rectifier valve.

The screen printing on the dial says UNITED and Made in England.

SW1, SW2 and SW3 plus MW, so an Export set I would say.

I can't see a UK radio manufacturer called United listed on Radio Museum, can anyone shed any light?

Thanks. SR.

I can't make out the name on the right hand side of the glass, is it "EmslanD"?

The sockets on the rear suggest English.

The set has a real ETRONIC look about it but I don't remember an Etronic quite like this.

Cheers

Or just "EnglanD", with "Made In" above?

Seven valves with top caps means I've never seen anything like it!

Just to clarify the details on the tuning dial.

Magic eye is on the left, printing above it says 'TUNING' and the 'UNITED' name is underneath.

On the right hand side is a window with a waveband indicator inside. Printing above says 'WAVEBAND' and 'MADE IN ENGLAND' below.

Controls are labelled with small print at the bottom of the dial and left to right are; tone, off-on-volume, tuning, wavechange.

I can see where you're going with Etronic, Mike, the ribbed columns at each side are like their 640 set.

I've never seen so many top-capped valves in one set.

Thanks for your thoughts so far. Time for a second coat of wood dye....

32/CV is the only lettering I can read from what I would guess would be the output valve. You could be onto something there....

That leads me to a similar-looking Regentone A500 on radio museum.

Nice spot! It'll be a Regentone something or other then- export version of the A500.
