Harpenden 6th March 2011
It's almost that time of year again. Now there are only 2 Harpenden meetings per year there's all the more reason to come.
As usual I will be running the Bring and Buy stall for those who have just a few items to sell. 10% commission goes to the Vintage Wireless Musuem. Many generous folk also donate items - 100% of the proceeds goes to the Museum. We are also happy to store stuff that's in transit for Forum Courier Service. Please make sure it's labelled with sender, recipient and any intermediates. Saves us form occasional detective work. I couldn't operate the B&B without help. I hope the faithful regulars will be there. If anyone else wants to do a useful job here then please let me know. There's no reward apart from knowing that you are helping the Museum. It's a good place to meet people - everyone walks past the stall in the foyer. This thread is also a good place to note all those items we're meant to bring to or collect from others at Harpenden. BRING TV22 to Howard in Leeds via Jeremy(Pamphonica) and Colin Amiga bits to Horris (Dave) COLLECT Nothing yet! |

I'll be there earlyish as we're staying in MK, so if anyone else needs anything up to West Yorks (or Golborne) give me a shout. Nothing yet.
See you all there.

Re: Harpenden 6th March 2011
Mike, would you be willing to take the TV22 directly to Yorkshire rather than the slightly roundabout route I've currently got booked?

Re: Harpenden 6th March 2011
...I think the TV will go direct from Jeffrey to Mike now at Harpenden, I am no longer needed as an intermediary. But still on standby to ferry part-way if needed.

Re: Harpenden 6th March 2011
Hi All,
Just to let everyone know, I have just sent the Harpenden Auction Catalogue to Paul so that he can make it available for download and printing from the BVWS website when he gets the chance to do it. There are 175 lots currently in the Auction, but this could increase before the end of the week, plus items entered on the day. This is also the BVWS AGM event which will take place in the small hall at 12:00 with the Auction start set for 1pm. See you all there, Mike...

Re: Harpenden 6th March 2011
Hi All,
Just heard from Vic Williamson, Harpenden Organiser that due to a couple of cancellations and some remaining tables, there are 5 Stalls left, so if anyone would like to have a table at Harpenden, you still have time and ther is some space. He is happy to take table bookings over the phone on 01582 593102 See you all on Sunday... Looks like decent weather too! Mike...

Re: Harpenden 6th March 2011
I would like to thank everyone who generously gave at the B&B stall, whether by donating stuff or from commission on sales. We raised £250 for the Vintage Wireless Museum. I think this is a record for a Harpenden meeting.
Thanks also to Edward and Peter for all their hard work on the stall. A small gripe. If you leave stuff on the stall, whether as a donation or for sale, please collect it if it unsold after 1pm. We don't have facilities for disposing of unwanted stuff. |

Re: Harpenden 6th March 2011
Another really enjoyable meeting. Thanks again to the BVWS/Harpy team for making it so
Some good quality stuff selling in the auction for peanuts. Good for the buyer but not so for the vendor. A sign of the current times I suppose. 'Just wish I had a few more quid myself to take advantage of the situation! Greg

Re: Harpenden 6th March 2011
My thanks as well.
Mike, you did a noble job despite getting hoarse trying to overcome a high level of noise in the hall! One of my least exensive Harpendens for a long time, but very enjoyable. General amazement that I had spent just £1 on the auction, despite bids on various items. The catering crew were on top form. Did you spot the large plate of free sausages later on? Thanks also to the BVWS team for all the arranging, and to Jeffrey and helpers for his unual indefatigable Bring and Buy stall running. See you all at the next one Jeremy

Re: Harpenden 6th March 2011
My first time at Harpenden and a good day out, the only down-side being trying to find somewhere nearby to park.
Ended up with a bacon sandwich, a Bush VHF61 and an EKCO A28, which seemed substantially smaller on the stage than it did when I got it home. Disappointingly it seemed to have grown even bigger by the time the missus came into my study to see what I had bought. My only other 'comment' would be a suggestion that the traders could have a little sign or something on their tables giving their business name. There were a couple of traders I'd made a mental note of as they had useful stuff, like the stall selling several shiny shades of silicon sheathed wires and another chap selling valves and components next to the stand selling AVO's. Though I'm sure many longtime event attendees might know these stall-holders very well, newer members, like myself, would not and I wouldn't mind trading with these two in future. |
