Current propogation conditions.
For the past few days, during daylight hours (10.00 to 15.00), propo. in the range 2.5 MHz to about 12 MHz seems exceptionally low - even allowing for the times of listening & time of year: RCI was coming through, loud and strong, of course! A quick sensitivity check on the four receivers in use indicated no problems with the receiving gear.
Can anyone here confirm these findings? Thanks. Al. / Skywave. |

Re: Current propogation conditions.
Thanks for your reply, David.
However, even allowing for the current low sun-spot activity, things do seem exceptionally quiet, based on my listening experiences over the last 18 months. Is there a significant increase in the number of international broadcasters who are deserting the s/w bands? Al. |

Re: Current propogation conditions.
you are right in as much as some countries are deserting shortwave due to cost verses internet but a quick listen around at night pulled in a lot. i tend to use a wellbrook al1350 on a rotator.. part of it may be due to sunspots part of it conditions changeing day to day

Re: Current propogation conditions.
While out and about today the radio in the works vehicle suffered from breakthrough from a French station on FM which I assume was due to some "sporadic E" propogation. A quick tune around brought in some foreign stations. Conditions on the HF bands seem close to normal at my location at the moment.

Re: Current propogation conditions.
Yes, Sporadic E was strong today. Radio 4 on FM on my car radio was blotted out completely by a Spanish radio station and I received Spanish TV in Band 1 (Channel E3 or E4, couldn't decide which) with an almost perfect picture.

Well, there's been no sporadic input to this Thread for quite some time now - so it seems appropriate for this Thread to be closed.
