Default Hacker RV14 trim colour?

I have removed the brass strip T section from the Baffle board of my RV14. I was expecting to polish brass and lacquer it, but under the dirt it appears to have had brown paint in places. This is one of the darker none grained cased RV14. Any one had similar ?

John.
