Pinch Roller assembly all back together and Play with tape mechanically all working well. The donor Pinch Roller from the 3021X does not deform when pressed onto the capstan shaft like the original roller.

With headphones plugged in no sound heard from Playing tape, maybe there is no recording on that section of tape although it did sound ominously quiet. Will not worry about that at the moment.

Next to checkout FFD not working unless the springy Take Up reel tabel is pressed down.

Found that I had not screwed on the tape counter pulley far enough down the shaft of the Take Up reel table (at Post 23), had not followed the advice from ricard at Post 17 of holding the pulley and turning the reel table, had just tightned down the pulley until if felt really tight.

The pulley screwing onto the shaft is really tight so this time used a 6mm box spanner (had to spin over the mains transformer for access) on the plastic hex nut that is part of the pulley and held that firm while rotating the bottom section of the reel table until fully screwed down.

Now no springy play in the table and FFD fast winding works very well, sometimes a little squeeking when stopping.

Definately no playback sound on the previous tape tried. Touching the Playback head connections gives loud hum so PB amplifier not dead.

Tried another tape and the left channel played back fine, probably a mono recording. Need to do some test recordings and recheck playback.

Need to re-assemble both the 6021X and 3041X before doing any more testing, have numerous bits everywhere, before I lose some bits or forget where they go. On both units the wooden surround is broken with 1 side panel completely broken off so need to repair those also.

Re-assembled the 3041X, its 3 sided wooden surround is pretty poor condition, have glued on the side that was broken off, hope it will hold.

Only partially re-asembled the 6021X as currently cannot find all the metalwork and fixings.

It shouldn't normally need that amount of force to screw it on, although given the age of these machines now I guess there is room for a bit of individual variation. I've always been able to do this by gripping the pulley with my fingers.

Certainly was very stiff/hard to turn, probably could have done it by holding the pulley but easier using the box spanner with a little tommy bar to hold it still then turn the reel table part.
