Default RCA AR88 Comms Receiver. Painting the case.

What is the best way to repaint the metal case-would ordinary black Hammerstein be ok?
Thanks

The best thing is to strip it then prime and respray with "crackle" finish paint available from classic-car-restoration places like Frost.

I think 'Wrinkle' or 'Ripple' finish is the best description for the paint type normally applied to military equipment. Also called 'Crinkle' by some.

A search for 'Crackle' finish will sometimes show a paint effect like a dried up mud pool.
This was used on some Hallicrafters SX-28 receivers.

I had mine bead blasted and then stove enamelled (silver hammer) professionally back in the sixties. Not original but still looks great. I had the advantage of an early set with engraved front panel.
