Philips 19 inch tv info please
Not sure what I have here . Or why I bought it as I have far to much stuff.
Hopefully someone can tell me more about it .i can’t find anything about it on the web. The model number is GT20T328-02 with a 19 inch screen. I don’t know if I have the skills to repair it . But would just like any information. It has been stored in a damp location at one time and for the last couple weeks it’s been in the dining room in the warm . On first inspection the main fuse was blown . It was the correct size so I replaced it with a new one. I normally use a variac but this time didn’t as it’s hard wired in my cold shed. On switch on it came to life for about a second with hiss and then blown again. Any info on this set please Andy |

Re: Philips 19 inch tv info please
It’s the solid state Philips UK 320 chassis, with a thyristor power supply. It uses a”glow switch” in the power supply that blows the fuse if the dc output is excessive.

Thanks for the info. Yes I did see the glow switch . I was trying to work out what it was giving sort of appearance of a starter switch.
Have you any tips on fault finding Andy |

Re: Philips 19 inch tv info please
If the original Philips darkish green cylindrical flyback tuning capacitor is still fitted, don’t try to run the TV, as it will almost certainly be faulty and could / may have already, caused the line output transistor to fail s/c.
When I can access the circuit, I’ll make some fault-finding suggestions. |

Re: Philips 19 inch tv info please
Yes the green cap! It can take out the line oscillator chip as well. Check all the resistors in the power supply for value and replace any that are high. Check the CRT earthing spring plastic clip has not broken allowing the spring to short out the frame output transistors.
Very reliable once the power supply is sorted. The bridge rectifier used to go S/C blowing the print off [easily repaired] No surge limiter resistor is fitted... The tube will probably be low emission but may recover with use. Not one of Mullard's best. [Small getter] It's a 20" model A50-120WR CRT. John. |

Re: Philips 19 inch tv info please
So far I have only done a bit of a visual inspection .i see the capacitor to be changed
It’got no voltage rating 2n2 thatS all Whats best to replace it with. Also one from the power supply is very bad and a couple small electrolitics crusty. I will also check resistors on the power supply board . Thanks everyone Andy |

The one in the second picture is a 330n 250VAC X2 class capacitor. The one in the first picture is probably rated for 1600V or 2000VDC. Use MKP foil types for both.
The old ones are dual dielectric polyester/paper, hence they fail. |

Re: Philips 19 inch tv info please
The 2.2nF one is rated 1500V peak and 5% tolerance. A metallised Polypropylene film (pulse) type is a suitable replacement.

Re: Philips 19 inch tv info please
The power supply in this is a bit like the Pye CT200 / Philips 570 - aargh! However it hasn't as much to do so upgrading everything on there isn't too arduous a task and will result in a reliable unit. Check the BU105 line output transistor, though it usually survives.
I think the line oscillator IC is very specific - the suffix is important. Hopefully yours is OK. This chassis found it way into a smart 17" white cabinet version on a chrome pedestal stand - very cool, and commands a good price today, especially as that CRT lasts forever. |

Re: Philips 19 inch tv info please
Dragged this one out this morning. It worked when last powered up a while back but it was dead on switch on.
Fault was O/C 33 ohm resistor, part of power supply smoothing. It performed very well after replacing resistor. At first sight often confused with the G8 colour chassis especially the console version with clip on legs. With a good tube it gives a sparkling picture. The 17" version has a high quality non Mullard CRT. It never fails and displays the 320 chassis at it's very best. Screen shot courtesy of 'On the Buses' [1970] John. |

Re: Philips 19 inch tv info please
A little quirk of Philips in the early days of colour was to have a mono TV in the style of a contemporary colour. I was almost fooled by a 23" 210 chassis disguised as a 25" G25K500 - the only obvious clue being two (rather than four) control knobs, rather like this 320 aping the G22K550!

Re: Philips 19 inch tv info please
If I had the space I would like to have a working one of these or a G8, I've always had a soft spot for the "keyboard" channel selectors.
The 17" version originally came with a very 1970s styled stand that it's could easily lifted off to carry around the house. This version didn't have the same channel buttons, but at least had a rotary switch for 4 channels when most portables still had a single dial.

Re: Philips 19 inch tv info please
Thanks everyone for your help so far.
As my as my knowledge it a bit limited but inspired by a reasent thread I think I might have a chance. Can I ask how critical 2n2 has to be I got a 3n3 I believe at 1600 volts is that near enough. Andy |

Re: Philips 19 inch tv info please
With a 3n3, all line output derived voltages will be too low.

Often a spot of adhesive was required to secure the tuning pot gear to the spindle. For some unexplained reason, Philips continued with this idea, in a different form with the G11 series eventually to be replaced by the electronic touch drawer completely solving the problem.John. |

Re: Philips 19 inch tv info please
I agree - the flappy G8 selectors always needed cleaning and retensioning whenever we repaired them, also the tuning wheels could split needing a bit of unofficial soldering iron work.. If someone had used switch cleaner then the casing fell apart - I used cable ties if replacement wasn't an option. A firm used to supply replacements that had six slide type switches - I still have one! The Philips G11 ones were even worse - the Pye version and the late electronic ones were excellent.
The rotary control on the white 320 series could be repaired in a similar way, though it was easy to replace the knob upside down.... |
