Did you have those "brick" remotes on UK sets? They started as ultra sonic, but in the K11 period changed to IR. These were much better than the later remotes with grey plastic and round buttons.

This commercial makes me want to go and buy one...

Yes we did. Original remotes for the last G8 and G9 were very basic ultrasonic using a bar and hammer, then the G11 ultrasonics which were electronic, later becoming big black infra-red ones. The arrival of the remote KT3 sets gave us the grey one you mention which always seemed to fall apart. ISTR before the days of Konig and replacement units you could buy the circuit board and bubble unit for these.

There was a large multi function ultrasonic remote used by Dynatron on a Pye chassis which was the same as the one my friends in Paris had with their Philips set. I have one for my Dynatron set...

I did have the Alba set shown in the link above but it got dumped in one of my parents' enforced clearouts sadly. I do however still have the Philips version of the set, fitted with a regunned tube...
