Hi all.

Having spent a few weeks browsing this site - and what a treasure trove of information it holds - I thought that it was about time that I joined. I do not have an electronics background and know very little about the subject but I am a very willing learner .To this end I have purchased an early R209 receiver which I hope to give a new lease of life to - well we all have to start somewhere! I have no doubt that I will be seeking advice from forum members on the R209 in due course.

All the best, Norman.

Quite. Sometimes it seems that people on here were born with the knowledge, but we were all at your stage once. Of course, being employed in electronics is a huge advantage, but anyone can learn (almost) anything with the will.

So, which part of Devonshire? It's a big county, the only one with two coastlines! How far from me?

You certainly will need some help!
Not a military set person myself, I'm in awe of your ambition!

Certainly a challenging first project. If you really are new to electronics generally and valves specifically, it might be an idea to buy something simpler and learn the ropes on that. There are lots of 1950s 4 valve battery sets around which can be had for little money. The valves are similar types to those in your R209, but the overall design is very much simpler. You can run these sets from a single cell for the LT and a pile of Poundland PP3s for the HT.

Hello and welcome! I too live just 'over the border' from Devon - in Somerset, Chard. Where in Devon are you? If you'd like to keep that information restricted, you can reply in a P.M., if you wish.
