TV local
Hi all,
Does anyone know the model of this set, it looks like a Philips and it's for sale only 10 miles up the road from me and is in very clean condition, seller states that it was working when bought 25 years ago. Cheers

Re: TV local
Looks like a
17TG100U or it could be the 17TG200 with the flywheel sync

Re: TV local
Go for it Lee, I have one, a very easy set to work on, the chassis swings open, garden gate fashion. Changed a few caps, Lopt & Tube were OK, a lot of the resistors were out of speck.

Re: TV local
I've got one and also the Stella version.
Nice sets but the LOPT in these is doomed to fail! Mike barker can rewind them however....

Go for it , i bought an identical set in November from a one owner family and it performs brilliant. Only two capacitors changed. Regards. Gary. |

Re: TV local
I have a 17TG100U in my collection, it only needed 3 caps & a resistor replacing. Excellent picture quality, but as already said, the LOPT can be unreliable.
Make sure the mains lead is with it, as they are quite hard to find. Mark |

I also recall another forum member here was after one of these sets a while back, they found one - but LOPT was duff. So they got a doner set ... with a duff LOPT. Etc. But yes, nice sets when working. TTFN, Jon |

Re: TV local
My Parents had one, replacing an Ekco TC162 (I think) and in turn being replaced by a Thorn 3000. I can't remember it ever breaking down, but of course it hadn't sat idle for decades!

Re: TV local
My gran's old set in the '60s, which I dropped down the stairs. She made me rebuild it, which was effectively my first training on TVs.
I now have one of my own, combining the best bits of two others. As others have said: the LOPTs can be unreliable, but these sets give a brilliant, pin-sharp picture. Cabinet finish after all these years is often crazed. Choose a good one if you can. Steve |

Re: TV local
Well despite contacting the seller they have not bothered to reply, I guess it wasn't meant to be.
Cheers

Re: TV local
That's a big shame. These are great sets with ultra-easy access for repair and that looks like a good one. The picture is large, brilliant and sharp with good geometry - well up to guests' expectations today when they come over for a 'television evening' featuring an old film.

Re: TV local
Working 25 years ago... they must have a standards converter to go with it!
