i have a cpc 464 which works apart from the tape drive. the tape drive can fast forward, rewind, stop, eject but not play. i've taken a look inside and tried operating it but the motor dosn't even start for playing a tape but is fine for rewinding and fast forwarding so the problem is electrical can anyone help?

Long time since I worked on these but if memory serves me.. there is a small open pair of switch contacts under the deck that provide power to the motor when the buttons are pressed, they are probably not being closed enough during the play selection, or may be dirty at one spot.
I don't think there is anything else in the motor circuit. |

OK, i have just cleaned the leaf switches that hasn't helped but i did notice that on pressing play one switch opens and the other closes when i shorted the open one the motor started. i've spotted a relay in there which is in parrallel with the switch that opens when play is pressed. i dont have to type a command in to get the tape to play do i?
