Hi folks,
What’s this called, please? I have several of the unscreened type but need the kind with the thin alu foil on the outer... Thanks!

Re: Cat5 Ethernet cable with screen /foil outer
UTP stands for Unscreened Twisted Pair, so if it has a foil screen, it has to be STP surely?

Re: Cat5 Ethernet cable with screen /foil outer
The link refers to an ISO standard, I don’t know anymore than that, perhaps the titles have changed over time as more types of cable have been introduced.
Quote from the article. This blog provides basic information about each style, as defined by ISO/IEC 11801:200

Re: Cat5 Ethernet cable with screen /foil outer
As explained on the Belden paged linked to by Nuvistor, the letter after the "/" indicates what screening, if any, is applied to the individual pairs, whereas the letter before it is the overall screening. I have to admit that I was unclear on these before reading that lucid explanation.

Re: Cat5 Ethernet cable with screen /foil outer
So are there:
S/STP U/STP and U/UTP variants then?

Re: Cat5 Ethernet cable with screen /foil outer
I think the last of those tends to be called just "UTP".
