Impressive - and interesting in it's own right. Thanks.
Maybe another thread that you might find interesting (but have probably seen already): http://audiokarma.org/forums/index.p...eplica.716847/ |

Brilliant. Going to http://www.daliborfarny.com/ reveals his story. Maybe I am stretching reality to an extreme but this kind of inspiration could lead to CRT regunning, re-manufacture of EM34s etc which would be to a tiny niche market of old tech enthusiasts like us.

Yes, fabulous to watch but with such a labour intensive process I doubt we could afford anything. It would be great to see it progress to an automated process then price would come down. Very interesting though. Norman

I had a look, 145 (euro/pounds/dollars, at that level it doesn't matter which currency) a piece. Quite good value for such a small quantity production item. A set of four (or six) would cost less than one of the treasured output valves audio people buy, one day I may get some, call me an neonphool.

I love the waving of the magic induction wands. I always wondered if it was worth making one of these to see if it would be possible to recover a few slightly air filled valves.

Re: YouTube video - making new Nixie tubes!
They'd make it worse. They are used to create heating to free up trapped gas in metal parts, so they're used during pumping.
Freeing trapped gases in a valve not being pumped is the opposite of what you want. Maybe firing the getter would be better, hoping there is more material left. Davidt

Re-firing the getter was the experiment I would like to try. As you say there probably won't be any remaining but it would be interesting to know.

A very well made video too, really quite enthralling to watch. Such a lot of experimentation, R&D and capital investment - all from scratch.

Going through my head is the prospect of large, flat plate neons for replica mechanical TVs. Achieving uniform illumination was apparently a big challenge but Mr Farny seems to have cracked it.

Nixie tube manufacture
Hi All
I found this on youtube today, it's from this year. Maybe one day he can diversify into making electron guns for old CRTs? https://youtu.be/wxL4ElboiuA Cheers Mike |
