Default Ferrograph 6 pinch roller adjustment?

Hi,
I've a problem I've not had to deal with before - the pinch roller on a Ferrograph 6 series isn't touching the capstan and I can't work out how to adjust it. Of course, the manual doesn't help much.

Can anyone point me to the correct procedure?
Thanks,

Hi,
I have had a quick look at the underside of a series 5 deck (not sure how much difference there is between 5 and 6 as the operating mechanism appears the same) and cannot find any obvious method of adjusting anything. When the 'Run' lever is pulled and holds to the solenoid it just lets the pinch roller mech fall back against the capstan under spring pressure. It only does this when the deck is energised?

ISTR there are more similarities between the 5 and the 6 than differences.

The pinch roller does move correctly in ‘Play’ but is held just slightly away from the capstan, about the thickness of a tape. There must be a way to adjust the stop, I’ll have another look today.

Another thought: Is it possible to move the capstan bearing carrier position in relation to the pinch roller, as a way of closing the gap? I.e. The whole capstan assembly.

Unfortunately not, the three screws that hold it to the plate are well fitted into the top plate. I also suspect that moving the flywheel / capstan assembly may make for troubles between the motor and the flywheel.

Could it just be a case of rubber shrinkage due to age.
