I bought a megger from there in the 1950's which looked as if it had been dropped from a great height for 5 bob,a lot of patience with UHU or whatever was around in those days and it worked perfectly, threw it out in 1963 when we left Sheffield.

Just noticed Bardwell's have re-opened their eBay shop, I assume to clear final stocks (?), so not sure how long it'll be open.....

What's their eBay shop's name?

Looks like they just use their username - just use advanced search for seller = "bardwells_electronics_shop"

I've pm'ed you a link as well - not sure if it's allowed to post here.

Sadly it looks as if Bardwells is really gone for good now. I recently placed an order from their eBay shop and after the item's non arrival wrote to them (as expected the Sheffield phone number just rang and rang) and received no reply. A few days later a full refund was received but no explanation. Looks like I will never now have one of those little chassis stereo amps they did......
Sorry to see you go I will miss you.
Peter.

I've mentioned their demise to several 'ordinary' people who have been shocked and upset by the news. They may not have been electronics enthusiasts but knew where to go if they needed something as they'd get good advice even if not the thing they wanted.

My local church distributes a free magazine four times a year to every house in the parish and the Harvest edition arrived this morning. There's even an obituary in that. It doesn't tell us anything we don't already know but does show what a local institution Bardwell's was.

A nice but sad little nostagia trip for me. I had the (mis)fortune to change buses home from school at the corner of Abbeydale Road and Sheldon Road, so it was only a step across to Sellers Street - pocket money all gone again! Between 1968 and 1973 that was. I never went to the Abbeydale Road shop, I think the move was forced when the Sellers Street area was re-developed.
