Default Spy set or what.

A friend in Germany has sent me photos of this. He says he has one but he does not know what it is!. No name to it but I'm sure it is a spy set. Anyway I'm intending to build one. I see that it fits into the vacant valve base of a domestic wireless. I've lost most of the information in the translation. ! What would it replace. I'm working on an octal....

Power output tube most likely. 6V6 or similar?

This is a German "Adapter Transmitter". There were several variants, but I haven't seen one in an 'L' shaped case before.

Valve used could be AL4, EL2, EL12, 6L6 or 6V6.

More info including a circuit in WFTW Volume 4.

If it is indeed a German 'spy set' I think it post-dates WW2. It has a 1950s look about it and used an HC6-U crystal holder. I'm not sure when that crystal package was introduced but I think it was post-war, though I stand to be corrected. (The pile wound chokes have an Eddystone look about them!).

Agree with HC6 crystal, and the length of the valve (and it's little flange) suggests 6L6

Hi

He says Croatian !. it has a 6L6 valve. Yes I am thinking it plugs into a final output of the wireless. So thinking 6V6. No name or information.

If I get any more information, I'll post it here

Thank you

That's odd. From 1918 to 1991 Croatia was part of Yugoslavia. Perhaps this is of recent origin?

I've seen variants where the adapter plugged straight into the output valve socket of a broadcast radio and used the original output valve. The version pictured uses a plug on the end of a lead.

In the colour picture the tuning knob looks awfully like the fine tuning knob from a 19 Set.

Hi.

First of all the colour photo is of the one I'm building. That's why I asked for the plug as I cannot see it in the photo. I now have a little more.

Pete.
