Default HMV iron.

Hi,
Here's my HMV iron. I believe it may be pre war ?

Indeed it is prewar, 1935 to be precise. This was the first British electric iron to have a thermostat. Your example looks to be in nice condition. There's a website about these, I'll see if I can find it in a while.

Must dash now, I have another pressing engagement elsewhere on the board

Must be a rare item, being made of porcelain, it would be destroyed if dropped.

It's a pity that website does not give production end dates for them. The 1936 Morphy Richards is the sort my mother used until about 10 years ago but I think they were still making that model in the '70s.

The murphy R model was available new still in the 90s !!
