Default Air brush advice needed.

I've never used an air brush. I am thinking about buying one for very minor Bakelite repair painting. I don't want to fork out a lot for an air compressor. Are any available to run off air duster tins? I will only use it about once a year if that. I use car paint aerosols but I need the jet to be a lot more controllable. What would you recommend ?

Yes they are available for use with an 'air can' pop to your local model shop.

Thank you, Sound like what I need. It's a lot easier for me on Ebay, I will have a look.

'Badger' used to be the most common, good, brand.

Halfords sell 500ml cans of propellant. A can lasts ages:

To be honest, to get really excellent results an expensive airbrush and purpose-designed small airbrush compressor is called for, but for what we're trying to do, with our limited expertise, and occasional use, an e-bay hobbyist one is fine. You'd probably be best using water-based acrylic paints, and Boyes (Holderness Rd/Hessle Rd/Beverley etc), carry an extensive range of colours, which you can mix if you wish. You can also spray clear gloss acrylic.

The attached pic of a KB 'Toaster', the cabinet of which had been trashed and I repaired, was sprayed with an airbrush using Boyes acrylic paint as I couldn't find the desired green colour in aerosols. It isn't as garish as it looks - it's 'eau de nil' and the colour was chosen by my son - not me. (He wanted one that colour, so I found a 'scrapper' and restored it for him).

If you want to borrow my air brush John to have a go with it to see if it produces the desired results, you're most welcome - just give me a call.

Otherwise, if you want to jump in and buy one anyway, those at the link below are typical sub-£20.00 B.I.N. hobbyist ones from UK suppliers:

Hope that helps a bit.

Have fun!

If you don't want to pay for the cans they work fairly well when fed from a car tyre.

I have an image of taking the wife's MX5 upstairs to the workshop. Cans do last a while for most jobs BTW.

What sort of air pressure do these air brushes work at? I have a general purpose compressor, but never though of using it with an air brush.Ted

A few tens of PSI, it's all adjustable.
