Default Standard Telephones & Cables 681/2(L) 1970 - Info please

We have this set that we received along with a load of other Home Office and Services radio and comms equipment.

I can't find any info about it at all.

The dash control unit is marked 681/2 and the boot box marked 681/2L 1970.

Pictures attached...

This was a common AM radio telephone used in police and fire service vehicles through the 1970s, possibly up the the mid-80s in some areas. It will probably be in 'P'-band (79 - 101MHz) or thereabouts. 10W RF output if my memory is working still. Usually called the STC681, or just the '681'.

The control unit shown in your pics isn't the standard vehicle unit, I am a little intrigued as to what that one was for...?

Thanks for that, still can't find any info! Whereas there is loads out there about PYE stuff.

Not sure what it came out of but going by the numbers they are definitely intended as a pair?

We might even have the link cable for it.

Found 4 of the control units so they must have been a fairly common type.
