Question Telefunken Music Centre Identification

Recently i inherited a Telefunken Music Centre but cannot find any details for it on the internet.
I would like to know which model it is as i need some spares for it, i.e. belt for the tape recorder and record player and a stylus and any other information our users may have picked up would be greatly beneficial.

Thanks for your help.

There will be no Telefunken-specific belts available for these. A range of various sized belts can be bought for Pennies online. Measure yours to get the closest match. As for a new stylus, we need to know the make of the cartridge or a close-up photo of it. I can't quite see the badge on the desck - is it a DUAL?

This dates from the late 1970s. The record deck is probably the weakest part, it is a late BSR type with the problematic speed/off control. The stylus you need will probably be either a Tetrad or BSR ST16, ST17, ST21. A close up of the underside of the end of the arm showing the cartridge area would help.

The cassette mechanism is likely of japanese origin, probably by Sankyo. You will need to open it up and , if the original belts are disintegrated, thread some string around the belt path to get an idea of what is needed. A multi belt pack off ebay may be easier than buying individual belts.

It seems to tell you on the front panel what model it is. Not that it helps in this case as you will need to source generic belts as the originals will not be available.

Thanks for your replies, they have been very helpful.

Edward
I have posted some better quality images to look at i can find a belt to suit. It doesn't say Dual.
8T20 SC12H

Ben
It says on the stylus 8T20 and SC12H on the cartridge but the picture is not very clear.

My main aim is to identify it as a unit if possible.

The SC12 is a known BSR cartridge, stylus's are available here

The model is identified on radiomuseum but there's no pictures or service info on it. dated 1980

There's nothing on Hi-Fi engine either.

Probably most of it was bought in and assembled in a Telefunken factory, I'll bet none of it is of German build.

it probably sounds quite nice when working properly.

Yes it is now added to the Radio Museum, but it would be nice to know a little more.
I am puzzled by the wavebands and the absence of LW making this model appear that it was intended for export outside of Europe.
It is listed as Telefunken AEG UK as it does not appear to be made in Germany (absence of German names for the controls), can anyone confirm this was made in the UK.
I have asked Stacey to send me some more photos.
Can anyone identify the BSR deck model number?

Mike

Here is some more information about the condition of this unit.
When in tuner mode it works with both speakers, however when in tape or record player mode only one speaker is working.
I couldn't say why this is happening so if anyone has any idea i would be grateful to hear it.
Thanks

It's most likely to be down to dirty switch contacts. Buy an aerosol of Servisol 10 contact cleaner and apply it sparingly while operating the switches.

Hi
I have managed to remove half of the turntable (very fiddly) and take these pictures, maybe they will help in identifying the turntable?

A decent photo at full resolution and good focus or a scan at 300dpi would be very useful to include in the Radio Museum.

thanks

At this stage, all we can deduce is that this is very late, early 1980's, BSR turntable and looks to have a plastic platter. These were rather flimsy in construction and likely to be the weakest sonic link in this music centre unit.

Hi Paul i got some Servisol 10 and worked the switches, but the left hand channel is very quiet and muffled on tape and record player. Just on a side point someone said to me that there are separate pre-amps for this machine one for the radio and one for the tape/record player so i had a look under the board and see pictures for this.

Thanks for your input.

Whilst we can't see the schematic there is unlikely to be any form of pre-amp for the tuner section. Also as it appears to use a BSR SC12H ceramic cartridge, there is unlikely to be a dedicated pre-amp as such for this either.

Lightbulb Re: Telefunken Music Centre Identification

I have managed to remove the turntable and take a few pictures.
The red label on bottom of turntable and other circuits under there.
Also the capacitor attached to the motor looks different but the motor is still operational.
Also have a nice picture of the circuit diagram.
Hopefully this will help solve my problems with one channel not working.
Again, any information you can gather regarding the identity of this unit would be of great help.
Thanks

Need a separate posting for all pictures.
The winding unit for the tuner and edge of circuit board looks a bit rough just below the radio winding unit.
