EMI/Westminster 9204 Record Player
Had this record player brought to me, I had expected it to be valve going by its looks but its transistor and has a external 9v transformer fitted
I'm just after some opinions on this please

Re: EMI/Westminster 9204 Record Player
That is an odd one!
There were a few similar Westminster (Curry's) models, but all those I've come across were valved, including the later styles. I can't help thinking that this one's been modified, particularly as it apparently has no internal mains transformer or battery holder. What's the date on the smoothing capacitor? |

Re: EMI/Westminster 9204 Record Player
Those two metal brackets at the bottom look like a battery holder for something like a PP10 ?
Cheers Mike T

Re: EMI/Westminster 9204 Record Player
EMI certainly did make that type of single turntable unit for battery (and mains) operation. It may be original and unmodified.

That mains adapter isn't original though, It looks like it's been converted from a battery only model.

Re: EMI/Westminster 9204 Record Player
I'm thinking the same as Mike, a PP10 (9volt) measures approx. 66mm X 66mm X 226mm according to one online source.
Next size down that I can find is the PP8 but that's 6 volt, approx. 65mm X 51mm x 200mm. Lawrence. Last edited by ms660; 11th Sep 2017 at 5:59 pm. Reason: addition |

It's had a couple of new electrolytics too (unless that was you) and an additional fuse mounting.

Re: EMI/Westminster 9204 Record Player
It would have been a PP10 battery I owned one of these players a few years back, original cartridge would have been an Acos GP 67, the mains converter has been added, I linked two PP9 batteries to run mine, think I slid one in each of the metal holders that the pp10 would have slid into.

Re: EMI/Westminster 9204 Record Player
Thanks guys for all your help on this
The amp is how it is when I got hold of it, I've not done any work to it One thing I have noticed is the plastic arm is very fragile.
