Default 2 metre transmitter

This is the first 2 metre transmitter I built, between 40 and 45 years ago.
Stored for many years in the attick, I came across it last weekend.

It is a conventional tx for the period, and I believe the design came from "the Bull" as Radcom was then known, or the RSGB handbook.

Using 8.+ mc/s crystals, multiplied up to 144mc/s, and then into the PA which is, or was, a QQV06-40a. As can be seen, it has suffered some damage during transit. Modulation was via 2x 2B254M's.

As the output is AM, and quite wide band at that, I doubt it will get used again, but one member of this forum who saw it found it interesting, so I thought that others may do too.

Very nice Alan. To my mind Amateur Radio should be all about building your own gear. However these days I have to be content with restoring vintage gear. Valve based of course.

I could not agree more with Graham's comments above.

A good build standard of which you can be proud.

This is what it's all about. I have a couple or three projects of similar nature from Radio Constructor in mind to while away the dark evenings of the next few winters.

Regards,

Does it have the smell?

Thanks for the comments.
I might just find its power supply, a spare PA, and fire it up.

Assuming that it works OK, I doubt I would use it much. It was always the building that interested me more than the working.

Oh, no smell.

I've moved some posts relating to AM operation to a new thread here:-
