Default Maplin MF1000 Frequency Counter

It must be the best part of twenty years ago, I bought the Maplin MF1000 frequency counter, over the years, it's served me well. Like a lot of my stuff here, it hadn't been used for a while, of course the time came when I wanted it. While it displayed frequencies around the wanted one, it wasn't stable, I thought to myself, is there an AC ripple on the power supply? Replacing the 2200µF and 470µF electrolytics in the power supply cured the problem.
