Default PP9s @ £1.74 each, 996s £1.99 each in Wilko.

PP9s at Wilko are currently reduced from £3.49 to £1.74. I just stocked up at the nearest branch however you need to keep an eye on the checkout process as the offer didn't work when the batteries were swiped at the register, meaning that I ended up holding back the queue while a staff member checked the shelf to confirm the discount.

The offer applied only to the silver Eveready ones, Wilko own brand yellow PP9s were actually more expensive.

For R707 owners, Wilko own brand yellow 996s are currently available at £1.99 each and have a best before stamp around May, 2017 which is roughly when the ones in my R707 now will reach the point of needing to be swapped out.

Me too, assuming it's a nationwide thing. Thanks for the tip-off.

I wonder whether they're discontinuing them?

That occurred to me too, Nick. I may just pop back when I'm next out & about to pick up a few more. Hmm, I'm sure that logic is flawed somehow but no matter.

Thanks for the heads up John. I popped into our local Wilko branch in Hull today to make enquiries but unfortunately they were still at £3.49. I’ll certainly keep checking back though as this sounds a very good offer.

Will definitely be checking out my local Wilko tomorrow for a couple of 996s for my recently-acquired 707 [which also needs some atention to its Lockfit transistors before it'll be truly happy for service as a kitchen/summerhouse radio].

Just checked the Wilko website. According to that, the Eveready Silver PP9s are £3.49, too. Maybe the £1.99 price was a regional 'special offer!'

£1.74, it's the 996s that are £1.99. I was in Wilko in Alnwick yesterday and they're £1.74 there too, which would support the theory that the offer isn't on in the south. Possibly because the economy is so much healthier down there?

A quick enquiry at customer services would probably price match from other stores. I believe they are obliged to do this if the item is in stock and displayed at a promotional price in other stores.

Is Wilko the same as Wilkinson?

Yes, I think Wilko is their house brand, a bit like Woolworths had Winfield and M&S had St Michael.
