Hi Nick,
If they are/were a local company,
and you want to know who E.L. HUNT were go to the reference library and ask for the trade directories of about 1935 and you should be able to get some info on the company.

regards.

Mike.

Hunt's MoldSeals are notorious 40 odd years on with their cracked cases, but presumably at the time, they were seen as a good low-cost cap, or manufacturers wouldn't have bought them and continued to buy them.

I can believe that Hunts did accelerated life tests but were aiming for a life of five or maybe ten years which was as long as anyone would have expected the products they were in to last. Accelerated life tests are never the same as actual life anyway.

Do any TV servicemen from the time have views on MoldSeals and problems they caused back in the day?

There are also Red Hunts in Eddystones and Marconi test equipment which are notorious.

I suspect that the reason Hunt's MoldSeals have the reputation they have is because the cracked cases look bad, and there are so many about.

Any paper cap is a dubious proposition after a few decades.

Pete.

Yes, Pete! Ekco in the late 1950s had loads of them in the IF strip on their TVs - .001 mfd IIRC. In the early 1960s, we were replacing the lot due to IF instability. Even worse were the TV/FM versions - T311 et al.
