Default Photos of old radios in abandoned house.

See:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/1140...-pictures.html

and look at photo #18

The larger radio looks like a Pye P75. I can make out "ITT" on the middle-sized one.

The ITT appears to be a Europa from 1976: http://www.swatchway.pwp.blueyonder....Europa_100.JPG

The other transistor set is probably a no-name 60s Hong Kong job.

The Pye set and also the TV suggest the house had mains electricity, surprising given the remote location. My guess would be that it was inhabited by a single elderly person who finally died in the late 70s, and the heirs either couldn't be found or didn't want to know.

A rough looking Pye P75 was featured on Antiques Road Map of Britain last week from Cambridge. Tim Wonnacot informed the astonished owner that in good condition it would be worth £70 to £100.

I love that place and think if it could be restored to original using the stuff that is there.

Think I would have a few earlier radios/TV's in though. Hope I am not too far off topic.

I think I can see a socket to the left of the range in the fireplace.
Mind you, the TV could have been powered by a 12v battery.

Looks like the place has serious damp issues that has ruined so much of the contents.

All the best.

The photos look artificial, staged.
Where are the cobwebs, dust and bird and mouse droppings?

I think a lot of 'artistic license' has been taken in arranging these photos.

Typical 'Sunday supplement' photos

Perhaps this is a good thread on which to mention another abandoned place - a tiny 3 room, corrugated-iron bungalow just east of Glencree youth hostel towards the Dublin end of the Wicklow way in Ireland. It stands overgrown with brambles on a hillside not far from the road. The mains elec supply (on wooden pylons) is still in evidence, which might help someone find it.

Inside are the normal sad piles of old cardigans and trousers, cooker etc etc - but also a lot of hobby electronics mags from the 60s and 70s, amateur radio gear, and (what perhaps dates the man's passing) some BBC 'B' and what looks like Apple 2 computer gear. There are no windows, and all is pretty far gone. Outside stand (just) two ~1970 VW 'transporter' vans with trees growing through them, in the back of which are more piles of stuff including the odd decomposed record player.

I'd be very interested if any Irish reader know of the place, and more so if anything is known of the late owner. Next time I visit my brother-in-law, I'll try to take a few pictures.

cheers
Mark

Yes, the ITT radio on the right looks like a Europa 100.

That was my thoughts too. Never let the truth get in the way of a good story!

Definitely a Europa 100. I have one bought in 1974 so must be vintage by now.

What a lovely old house, I'm, amazed it hasn't been vandalised. It wouldn't hang about for long if it came on to the market. Seeing transistor radio's immediately makes me think its not so very old as the Bush mains set is from my era, but I suppose its all relative.

I suspect the house is haunted and the ghost that does the haunting is a bit useful with a duster...

Actually, you won't get a lot of dust in a disused building that is weathertight. Household dust is mostly skin flakes and dead bacteria, which is why your bedroom gets a lot dustier (or needs cleaning more often) than a little used dining room or box room.

It is easy to assume that the house is in a rural area where few people may stumble across it.
Not always so.

A few years ago I knew house in central Bournemouth, that had been lived in by one family since it was built in the 1850's.
The old lady who lived there died and I tried to get the local historical society interested in preserving it.
Heck, it still had gas lighting fittings (although no longer used) lace curtains, etc, and nothing had been changed since her grandfather died in WW1.

While efforts were underway to preserve it, her (young) relatives got skips in overnight and scrapped everything, mostly using hammer so that nothing worthwhle remained.

So, keep your eyes open and if you find such a place, act fast to preserve what is there.

Its surprising how many abandoned properties there are, often still with a vintage radio or TV resting there. There's lots of examples to be seen on the Derelict Places website - I have to admit it makes me a little sad looking at some of the photos there.

Jon
