Just installed LibreOffice and the file is opening as normal. Thanks Julie, it looks a very useful office package. Regards Symon. |

Re: Analogue DX-TV in 2018
Nothing on R1 or R2 for me recently. However last night at about 6 pm BST I was listening to BBC Local radio - Shropshire on Band II and I'm certain I heard Arabic speaking transmissions wafting in and out for a few minutes...

Some vintage TV-DX circa 1974-5 from the USSR on I think channel R2.
Back then I was living less than 10 miles from Holme Moss and I think reception of R1 was difficult to say the least.

Re: Analogue DX-TV in 2018
I've been listening out on R1 over the last couple of months and have not heard anything. Has anybody else had success? I'm asking because the TXs may have finally closed down - in which case an experiment I've just restarted (to see if the International Space Station can reflect enough R1 signal to be detectable) is a waste of time !
For those interested, the times of transit of the ISS can be found here: https://spotthestation.nasa.gov/sigh...r#.WWX3ILczWig where the viewing site can be changed to one closer to the receiving site. The simple assumption here is that when the ISS rises, as seen from the Transmitter site, then it will be in the primary polar diagram of the TX and hence reflect the most signal. So since a clear sky to see the ISS is not required this is a nice indoors experiment that is not affected by the weather. Last edited by SteveCG; 6th Oct 2018 at 10:51 am. Reason: URL correction |

Re: Analogue DX-TV in 2018
There has been no activity TV picture wise for the past few months a very disappointing year.
Ukraine was supposed to go off analogue in Sept this year no idea if it's a phased type closedown but I have thought it would due the size of Ukraine. Russian TXs are alive and well I see the carriers daily due to meteor shower I will let you know if I find any info on Russian analogue closedown. Andy

Re: Analogue DX-TV in 2018
Thank you Andy.
I've been trying listening on R1 (with -ve offset), a frequency where I have received R1 transmissions in the past. No joy so far - low-level local interference does not help. I've been listening out when the ISS is visible in the early evening - but the NASA website does not list when the ISS is "visible" but during the daytime. The next few evening passes are at quite low altitudes (for me) and so unlikely to be of use. However, I shall persevere. Interesting that you are getting still meteor pings. |
