However, I don't know how the Admin-mods etc get informed, to change this - possibly by someone putting an announcement in one of the Member News areas? And whilst for Karen Orton this 'valve type' has got changed to reflect this, it did not get changed for Slothie. |

I hadn't realised the sad passing of Slothie which was why I asked the question.
He came across as a knowledgeable and genuine nice guy, I never knew him personally or had any dealings with him. His projects and posts were always interesting reading, so sad to know his fate, Rip Ian.

Does anyone have definite information that Slothie is deceased, or is it hearsay?

Sensitive subject Graham for all the correct reasons, walking that fine line, obviously I don't know for definite, however several very well respected members seem to point in that direction sadly.

Thanks Sirius, I really didn't want to take this thread off topic especially on such matters, thanks.

So, are there any more SC/MP based systems we haven't mentioned yet? I think Owen (ortek) got most of them. Last edited by SiriusHardware; 22nd Aug 2025 at 9:29 pm. |

You obviously have the SCAMPY which is the subject of the two books by Robert P. Haviland "How to Design, Build & Program your own working computer system" and the advanced one.

If anyone fancies a real challenge in recreation the completely lost and almost undocumented I.E.S.:
Which I find interesting as it says it can use peripheral cards for LCDS or ETI bus... and had five calculator displays for each of the registers - COOL. |

I did not see a link in the discussion or video to a project page on these. Are boards or build files available for these?

Both projects have only been published on Vintage Radio web site and Facebook. I have spare boards of both projects, I also have the Gerber files used to produce the boards. Ian |

I would love for all of the SC/MP (and related) projects which have ever been featured here to be fully available in every aspect including any relevant PCB design files. If we had Slothie's gerbers for his Ortonview PCB for example, we could much more easily re-jig it to accommodate Mark1960's '7474 fix' for the 'occasional memory corruption' problem.
Pros: Everyone gets a chance at benefiting from the hard work you've done and building your project. Cons: If you publish every detail of the project including the PCB files, someone may take it into their head to not just have some made and sell the surplus for what they cost to have made (which would be entirely reasonable, since most people only want one board but typically have to have a minimum of five made), - they might also decide that selling the PCBs for substantially more is a nice way to get money for nothing. This did happen with Slothie's issue VI MK14 PCB for a time: The cost of having the minimum five PCBs made and posted here was, at the time, about 25 GBP, so it would be reasonable for anyone who had a batch made to keep the one PCB they wanted and offer the other four around for about £5 each. Instead, someone was having them made and offering them for about £20 each - that price was very carefully chosen because:- -Most people only wanted one PCB anyway, not five, so the opportunity to buy one for 20 GBP fulfilled that need, still cost less than the 25 GBP cost to have five made, and did away with the problem of what to do with the surplus PCBs. -Given a choice, most people would prefer to buy just one PCB which is already made, already in their own country and will only take a day or so to arrive. Slothie was always pretty good about it, but still... I don't want to dissuade anyone from putting their work out there for the good of the community but once you do put something out there you don't really have control over what happens to it next. Myself, I consider anything that I've made that I post on a public forum (images, code, circuit diagrams) to be public domain as soon as it's posted. |

On this topic, the build files for v0.9 of the Nibbler are now available (but there are a few bugs noted on the schematic that you will want to note first). My preference is for people in a country to order boards and then distribute locally.
