I have changed the header to indicate these emulator's are derivatives of Karen's work. Let me know if that is not correct / appropriate. I have also added Karen's original PIC14 as the first pic board.

I think that I have integrated all the suggestions and corrected the broken links to the SC/MP project page, but additional information and suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks for adding my project. Cost to build? That depends where you get the INS8060. I payed about 30 Euro for one chip at Display Electronics. The PCB I get from jlcpcb and they are very cheap for us Europeans. I think that round about 130 Euro could be the cost for this system. Two chips are expensive: the 82C55A and of course the SC/MP.

Thanks for noticing, the page moved. I fixed the URL and I also added a somewhat nice photo. I don't have great macro shots of it at this time:

In his initial post Craig asked that we PM him with, among other things, images but the forum does not support the interchange of images via PM.
Here are a few more images of my build of Slothie's 'MK14 issue VI' PCB - the forum resizes images attached directly to posts so in the next post I will attach larger versions of the images in a .ZIP file. One shows the issue VI PCB, still minus keyswitches, side by side with my original MK14 issue II. Another shows it 99% built with keys fitted but still minus the 3D keypad bezel which was also designed later by Slothie. That was the last addition, after ScottishColin kindly printed one for me. The lower side image clearly shows Slothie's real name and his trademark 'sloth' badge. The PCB is only black because I asked for it to be made in that colour when I submitted the gerbers to JLCPCB, Other Colours Are Available. Last edited by SiriusHardware; 20th Aug 2025 at 7:16 pm. |

And here (and following) are larger versions of the images in the previous post attached as .zip files.

It may be better to have separate section for MK14, NIBL based and others.
The MK14 vdu emulator based on PIC and other MK14 accessories might also be of interest. The VDU emulator we refer to as Ortonview was Karen’s last project, Slothie designed a pcb for this, also I think his last project. |

No I think you are correct the files were never released - I bought the last 2 remaining PI uploader ones from ebay I assume as part of the estate sale.

I think I nearly bid against you for those! Good job I didn't.
This probably falls outside the zone of what Craig is looking for, but could you consider scanning both sides of an unpopulated uploader PCB for posterity? It might make it easier to reproduce if there was ever a need, although I think the system has been overtaken by Coolsnaz's fast 'CS2' serial loader as the go-to method since then. |

Since I am just coming up to speed on these projects, I hadn't planned on making this page the have-all and be-all for SC/MP, just do a little highlighting because it is an underrepresented processor. In the SC/MP links at the bottom of the page i have Phil G's site and TheODDys.com site which i expect will remain more current in all things SC/MP than my site. If there are other links i should add at the bottom, let me know. All the projects have their own links already. |

(But maybe a slight tweak to DC-Input connection, and proper-switches used on the keypad). And he originally did, before looking into making a much-improved (but still compatible) MK14E with as many of the now difficult to obtain parts substituted for more still-available retro parts) As well as JM Precision (if still available) etc I'd also previously mentioned (the Dataman Design 'SOFTY' EPROM Programmers that used the SC/MP. I believe the SOFTY-1 was originally supplied as a kit (and maybe ready-built), whereas I think the SOFTY-2 was only supplied ready-built (But did come with full circuitry details & components lists etc in the manual) But ChrisOddy has now done replicas of both (Including a replica vacuum-formed case for the SOFTY-2!): https://theoddys.com/acorn/replica_boards/replica_softy_1/replica_softy_1.html https://theoddys.com/acorn/replica_boards/replica_softy_2/replica_softy_2.html There was also an off-shoot 'GP Industrial Electronics' company from the original Dataman Designs (Now just called Dataman, and mainly re-badge ELNEC programmers), and who were also supplying the SOFTY at one point I believe? And their early (E)P4000/8000 units used the SC/MP-II 8060 (Although these were only available ready-built) http://matthieu.benoit.free.fr/GP_Industrial_Electronics_EP4000_eprom_programmer_resources.htm http://matthieu.benoit.free.fr/GP_Industrial_Electronics_P4000_eprom_copier_resources.htm http://matthieu.benoit.free.fr/GP_Industrial_Electronics_P8000_eprom_programmer_resources.htm http://matthieu.benoit.free.fr/pdf/GP%20EP8000%20EPROM%20Emulator%20ProgrammerPart1.pdf The original (Dataman Designs) SOFTY was actually originally designed (by Barry Savage) to design a Chess TV-Display/recorder unit - Published as a project (Although you could only get the vital parts by buying a full-kit!) in Electronics Today International (ETI - a UK Magazine, that was distributed to other Countries): https://www.worldradiohistory.com/UK/Electronics-Today-UK/70s/ETI-10-78.pdf And the SOFTY wasn't originally planned to be sold, until someone suggested to the designer there would be a market for it. Another original project that used the SC/MP was the ETI 'TWONKY': https://www.theoddys.com/acorn/acorn_system_computers/mk14/s...les/TWONKY%20(ETI%20Feb%201979).pdf ChrisOddy compiled a library list of SC/MP projects / articles. Both links in a thread he started on here about this no-longer work, since he restructured his website to have SC/MP separate from original Acord-stuff. But I found via Google that it still exists (as the link to it on his website is a bit-buried at the end of his MK14 webpage), here: https://www.theoddys.com/acorn/acorn_system_computers/mk14/s...library/scmp_documents_library.html Plus there is also an SC/MP Software downloads one: https://www.theoddys.com/acorn/acorn_system_computers/mk14/s..._library/scmp_software_library.html Re: The MGH8060GAL The Photo you have at: https://bitsofthegoldenage.org/documentation/sc-mp-based-project-boards/ is actually the original MGH8060 version that used logic-IC's for the address-decoding etc. But this was retrospectively-modified to use a GAL by a few people on this forum (With me also taking this a bit-further, to utilise as much of the originally-added GAL's pins as possible). Kris Sekula then updated his MGH8060 PCB to a MGH8060GAL version, but used a larger GAL IC, so it could do even-more. |

JM Precision's MK14 replica PCB is still shown on their website but I note it is currently out of stock.
